Five steps to set up clinical supervision

The goal of the National Centre for the Supervision of Parent-Infant Relationships (NCSPIR) is to provide parent-infant practitioners with access to clinical supervision. As part of the government’s Family Hubs and Start for Life programme, this supervision is being offered for free.

Supervision an opportunity for practitioners to reflect on the vulnerability of the baby and rawness of emotions stirred up in the parents, the couple relationship, and themselves. It is also designed to encourage individuals to explore different ways of supporting infants and their families and to discuss this with their colleagues and supervisors.

Getting started with supervision for your parent-infant practitioners is easy through NCSPIR. Just follow these simple steps:

1. Identify your needs

If you have practitioners in your local authority area who are working with parents and
infants and who would benefit from clinical supervision, we would love to hear from you.

2. Get in touch

Contact us by filling in the contact form on our website here or emailing the team at ncspir@tavistockrelationships.org

3. Finding the right supervisor for you

Once we have received your enquiry, we will set up a call to find out who in your local authority area might benefit from our services. Then we will match you with one of our clinical supervisors who has the relevant experience and suitable expertise for your team.

4. Memorandum of Understanding

Once everything is agreed, a representative from your local authority area will be asked to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with NCSPIR. This sets out the commitment of each party to provide clinical supervision to your practitioners.

5. Supervision begins

Supervisees will attend a webinar (in person or online) explaining what to expect from clinical supervision and then we will book supervision slots on Teams for your practitioners.
